Tim Hunter, born on September 10, 1960, is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and coach. He began his career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Victoria Cougars in 1977, where he played as a right-winger. Hunter was known for his physical play and tough-guy role on the ice, becoming a popular enforcer in the league. He played for several teams in the NHL, including the Calgary Flames, Quebec Nordiques, Vancouver Canucks, and San Jose Sharks.
Hunter’s most successful years as a player came during his time with the Calgary Flames, where he played for nine seasons from 1986 to 1995, including winning the Stanley Cup in 1989. He also set a franchise record for most penalty minutes, totaling 2,405 during his time with the Flames. Hunter retired as a player in 1997, and soon after began a career in coaching. He served as an assistant coach for several NHL teams, including the Washington Capitals, San Jose Sharks, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
In 2012, Hunter was named the head coach of the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL, and he spent three seasons with the team before being hired as an assistant coach for the San Jose Sharks. He is currently the associate coach for the Washington Capitals, where he has been since 2018. Tim Hunter’s career as a hockey player and coach is a testament to his passion and dedication to the sport, making him a respected figure in the hockey world.
