Tom Gilbert is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player born in Bloomington, Minnesota, on January 10, 1983. He played as a defenceman in the National Hockey League (NHL) for over a decade, from 2006-07 to 2016-17, with five different teams. He played college hockey for the University of Wisconsin, and following his sophomore year, he was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Although he was never considered a star player or even an NHL all-star, Gilbert's consistency and work ethic made him a favourite of coaches and teammates alike, and he enjoyed a long and successful career as a result.
