Tony Twist is a retired professional ice hockey player who was born on May 9, 1968, in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. He began his professional career in 1988 as part of the Quebec Nordiques in the National Hockey League (NHL) where he played forward till 1990. Later on, Twist played for several NHL teams such as St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Los Angeles Kings.
Twist had earned the reputation of being one of the toughest players during his time in NHL. He was a left winger known for his fighting skills and physical play. He was also one of the league’s greatest enforcers wielding a strong punch, quick feet, and an imposing stature. His performances in the rink often garnered mixed opinions as some believed his style of play promoted violence while others thought it was a necessary feature in the sport.
When Twist retired from hockey in 1999, he ranked as one of the toughest fighters in the league. He participated in several fights in the NHL, with his highest number of fights recorded in the 1992-1993 season with St. Louis Blues, where he engaged in 20 fights in 59 games. He played a total of 445 NHL games, scoring 4 goals and 8 assists and having 1,007 penalty minutes in his career. Twist left an indelible mark with his physical play and his ability to intimidate other players, further cementing his legacy as one of the greatest enforcers of his era.
