Trent Yawney Autographs
Trent Yawney is the former head coach of the Anaheim Ducks and a former NHL defenseman. Born on September 29, 1965, in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, Canada, he began playing hockey at a young age before moving on to play in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Yawney participated in the WHL for five seasons with the Saskatoon Blades and the Calgary Wranglers before being drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 4th round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft.
Throughout his career, Yawney played as a defenseman in the NHL for six seasons, starting in 1985 with the Chicago Blackhawks. Aside from the Blackhawks, he also played for the Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and St. Louis Blues. He appeared in 593 regular-season games, tallying 27 goals and 102 assists while accumulating 694 penalty minutes. While with the Blackhawks, Yawney became famous for his tough defensive style, hence earning him the nickname "Yawnder." One of his career highlights was reaching the Stanley Cup Finals with the Blackhawks in 1992.
After retiring from active play, Yawney entered into coaching, beginning with the Portland Pirates of the AHL. He worked there for a year before taking over as head coach of the Norfolk Admirals, where he led the team to win their first Calder Cup in 2012. Later on, he became an assistant coach for the Anaheim Ducks before becoming the head coach for the team in 2005. Over the years, Yawney has also served as an assistant coach for the San Jose Sharks, the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Edmonton Oilers before returning to his current position as an assistant coach for the Ducks.
