Vesa Toskala is a former Finnish ice hockey goaltender, born on May 20, 1977, in Tampere, Finland. He began his hockey career at the age of 18, playing for the Tappara Tampere team in the Finnish SM-liiga league. Toskala made a name for himself in the league, leading his team to the championship and earning the playoff most valuable player award in the 1999-2000 season. After suffering a hip injury in the 2009-2010 season, Toskala left the NHL and returned to Europe to play for the Finnish team, Ilves Tampere. He retired from professional hockey in 2013, spending most of his career playing in North America, amassing a record of 128-89-25, along with 16 shutouts, and a 2.78 goals-against average. Toskala continues to be remembered as an influential Finnish goaltender, who played a vital role in several of his team’s successes throughout his hockey career.
