He began his professional hockey career in 2004, playing for HC Slavia Praha in the Czech Extraliga. He quickly moved up the ranks and was soon noticed by the NHL scouts. Sobotka spent four seasons in the NHL with the Boston Bruins and the St. Louis Blues. He established himself as a reliable forward and a solid two-way player.
