Willi Plett Autographs
Willi Plett was born on June 7th, 1955 in Asunción, Paraguay. But he was raised in Canada, as he and his family moved to Canada when he was just 4 years old. Plett was a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who had an impressive career in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 13 seasons, from 1975 to 1988.
Plett’s professional career began in 1975 when he was drafted by the Atlanta Flames in the eighth round. He played with Atlanta Flames for five seasons and then moved to the Calgary Flames, where he played for three seasons, from 1980-1983. Plett became the first Flame to score 40 goals during the 1981-82 season. After playing for Calgary, he was traded to the Minnesota North Stars and played with them for three seasons. After that, he joined the Boston Bruins before he retired from playing professional hockey in 1988. Over his career, Plett played in 834 games, scoring 222 goals, and registering 348 points.
Throughout his career, Plett’s style of play was well-known for his physical and aggressive game. He was also prolific when it came to scoring goals, averaging 0.266 goals per game, which was impressive for a player known more for his physical prowess than his scoring ability. Plett was an All-Star (1981) and was awarded the NHL’s “Masterton Trophy” for dedication, sportsmanship, and perseverance in 1988. He was also inducted into the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame in 2018. Post-retirement, Plett remained involved in hockey, coaching and serving as an assistant general manager in the International Hockey League.
