Zack Kassian was born on January 24, 1991, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He began his hockey career as a member of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League in 2007. Kassian became known as a physical player with a strong scoring touch, tallying 121 points and 261 penalty minutes in 126 games with the Spitfires. He helped lead the team to two consecutive Memorial Cup championships in 2009 and 2010 before being selected 13th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. More about Zack Kassian

After spending parts of three seasons with the Sabres, Kassian was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 2012. He quickly became a fan favorite in Vancouver with his physical style of play and timely scoring. In the 2013-14 season, Kassian set career highs with 14 goals and 29 points while leading the team in hits with 182. However, his time in Vancouver was cut short after a controversial hit on Dallas Stars defenseman Brenden Dillon resulted in a three-game suspension.
