Clyde Curtin Autographs

Clyde Curtin was a highly accomplished Naval officer with a career spanning several decades. Born in 1922, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Curtin joined the Navy in 1940 at 18 years of age. His early years in the military were spent in training schools, and he quickly moved up the ranks, earning a commission and serving aboard ships as a Lieutenant. During World War II, he was deployed in the Pacific Theater and took part in several campaigns, including the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was on board the USS Gambier Bay when it was sunk during the battle, and he survived the sinking by swimming to shore.
During the Korean War, Curtin served as an instructor at the Naval Academy while also flying reconnaissance missions in North Korea. In 1958, he was appointed as the Commanding Officer of the USS Haleakala, a submarine rescue vessel. He later took on the role of the Chief of Staff of the Submarine Force for the Pacific Fleet and was promoted to the rank of Admiral in 1972. After retiring from the Navy in 1978, Curtin continued to remain active in the defense sector, working for several private companies as a consultant.
Clyde Curtin was decorated with numerous medals and awards throughout his career, including two Distinguished Service Medals, three Legion of Merit awards, and four Navy Commendation Medals. He was highly respected among his peers and was known for his dedication to the Navy's mission and his unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout his career, he demonstrated remarkable leadership skills that enabled him to lead teams and achieve objectives even in the most challenging circumstances. His contributions to the military remain an inspiration to many who have followed in his footsteps.
