James Goodson Autograph

James Goodson was an American fighter pilot, born in Greenwood, Mississippi, on October 6, 1921. Goodson began his military career in 1941 when he trained at Randolph Airforce Base as part of the United States Army Air Corps. During World War II, he flew multiple missions with the Royal Air Force in Britain, flying Supermarine Spitfires before transitioning to the P-47 Thunderbolt as part of the United States Army Air Forces. One of Goodson's most significant contributions to the military was his involvement in the Korean War. He served as the commanding officer of the 16th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, which he led in combat missions from June 1952 to July 1953. His most notable accomplishment during this period was destroying two aircraft in a single attack on June 30, 1952, earning him the title of "triple ace" and one of the few pilots to achieve this feat.

Goodman retired from military service in 1954 with a distinguished military record consisting of two Silver Stars, multiple Distinguished Flying Crosses, and 9 Air Medals. He continued to serve his country in other ways, including his work as a consultant for military aircraft manufacturers. In 1989, he published his memoirs under the title "Tumult in the Clouds," where he shared his experiences and lessons learned during his military career. James Goodson passed away on September 1, 2020, at the age of 98, leaving behind a legacy as one of the United States' most accomplished fighter pilots.
