John Baker Autographs
John Baker is a former Major League Baseball catcher who played for five different teams during his nine-year career. Born on January 20, 1981, in Alameda, California, Baker was a standout athlete in high school where he played baseball, basketball, and football. He went on to play college baseball at the University of California, Berkeley where he was a four-year starter and was named team captain during his senior year.
Baker was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2002 Major League Baseball draft. He made his Major League debut with the Athletics in 2008, but it wasn't until he joined the Chicago Cubs in 2013 that he had his best season. That year, Baker hit .279 with 11 doubles, four home runs, and 31 RBI in 68 games. He also had a memorable moment when he pitched the final inning of a blowout game against the Milwaukee Brewers and retired all three batters he faced.
After his playing career, Baker became involved in the front office side of baseball, working as a special assistant to the general manager for the Cubs and then as the vice president of baseball operations for the San Francisco Giants. He has also been a broadcaster for ESPN and the Pac-12 Network. Throughout his career, Baker was known for his hard work, leadership, and positive attitude, both on and off the field.
