Robert Goebel Autograph

Robert Goebel, a famous test pilot from the United States, was born on 2 August 1923, in Pasadena, California. Goebel was a veteran of World War II and also a Korean War ace. In 1943, at the young age of 19, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet. He finished his pre-flight training at Thunderbird Army Air Field in Arizona and then went to Stockton Army Air Field in California for basic flight training. During World War II, Goebel flew over 150 combat missions in Europe, where he became an ace. In 1950, during the Korean War, he was assigned to the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Wing in Japan. Goebel became the 5th USAF ace of the war by shooting down his fifth MiG-15 on 13 February 1952. He received the Silver Star on two occasions, the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Air Medal with 15 Oak Leaf Clusters.

Moreover, he also piloted the famous Bell X-1, breaking the sound barrier on his third flight on 7 November 1947, earning worldwide fame. Robert Goebel devoted his life to the US Air Force and aviation, leaving an indelible mark on the aviation world. He passed away on 20 December 2017, at the age of 94.
