Fred Williamson Autographs
Fred "The Hammer" Williamson is a retired American football player, turned actor, producer, and director. He was born on March 5, 1938, in Gary, Indiana, and started his football career at Northwestern University in Evansville, Indiana. He was an All-American defensive back at Northwestern and was soon drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 27th round of the 1960 NFL Draft.
Williamson played for the Steelers, the Oakland Raiders, and the Kansas City Chiefs throughout his professional football career, from 1960 to 1968. He had a reputation as a hard hitter, and his athleticism and skill made him a valuable asset to every team he joined. Over the course of his career, Williamson made 36 interceptions and played in two AFL championship games. His physicality and competitiveness were his biggest strengths on the field, and his success on the gridiron propelled him into a successful acting career following his retirement in 1968.
Although he transitioned away from football relatively early, Fred Williamson's legacy as a player has endured. He was a tough and relentless competitor, unafraid to lay his body on the line in service of the game.
