Roy Scheider was an American actor who rose to prominence in the 1970s, becoming one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood. Some of his other notable performances include the choreographer Joe Gideon in Bob Fosse's semi-autobiographical "All That Jazz" (1979), for which he received another Oscar nomination, this time for Best Actor. He also starred in "Marathon Man" (1976), "Blue Thunder" (1983), and "2010: The Year We Make Contact" (1984). Scheider continued to work in film and television until his death in 2008, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most respected actors of his generation.
