George Strait Autographs
George Harvey Strait was born in Poteet, Texas, on May 18, 1952. George's love for music began at an early age as he grew up listening to country music stars such as Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, and Bob Wills on the radio. As a teenager, Strait began performing with a garage band, and after graduating from high school, he enrolled at Texas State University. It was at the university that he joined a country band called Stoney Ridge and honed his singing and guitar-playing skills.
After performing locally for several years, Strait was discovered by record executive Erv Woolsey in 1981, who signed him to MCA Records. His debut album, Strait Country, was released in 1981 and received critical acclaim. Strait went on to release numerous albums, which consistently topped the country charts, establishing him as one of the most successful country artists of all time. His style has been described as traditional, and his music has been cited as being responsible for keeping the traditional country sound alive.
Throughout his career, George Strait has won numerous awards and accolades, including 22 CMA Awards, 19 ACM Awards, a Grammy Award, and several People's Choice Awards. He has sold over 70 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has also garnered critical acclaim for his acting roles in films such as Pure Country and the television series, King of the Hill.
