Jerry Reinsdorf Autographs
Jerry Reinsdorf is an American businessman and sports owner who has been a prominent figure in the world of baseball. Born on February 25, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, Reinsdorf graduated from George Washington University Law School and practiced law before moving to Chicago in 1957. He first became involved in sports ownership in 1981, when he and another businessman, Eddie Einhorn, bought the Chicago White Sox for $19 million.
Under Reinsdorf's ownership, the White Sox experienced a period of mixed success on the field but made significant strides off the field. Reinsdorf invested in the team's ballpark, Comiskey Park (renamed U.S. Cellular Field in 2003), and oversaw renovations and upgrades to modernize the stadium. He also played a key role in the creation of the Central Division of the American League, which helped to better balance the league's competitiveness. In 1993, the White Sox won the American League West division, their first divisional title since 1983. They went on to reach the American League Championship Series but lost to the Toronto Blue Jays in six games.
Beyond his ownership of the White Sox, Reinsdorf has also been involved in other aspects of baseball. He played a key role in the labor negotiations that led to the creation of a salary cap in the early 1990s, a move that benefited small-market teams like the White Sox. He was also a driving force behind the creation of the Arizona Diamondbacks, an expansion team that began play in 1998. Reinsdorf was one of the team's founding investors and served as its CEO until 2004. Throughout his career in baseball, Reinsdorf has been celebrated as a shrewd businessman and a passionate fan of the game.
