Rob McClanahan Autograph

Rob McClanahan is a former professional ice hockey player who was born on January 9, 1958, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He started his successful hockey career in 1976 when he enrolled at the University of Minnesota and played for the school's ice hockey team. McClanahan quickly became known for his aggressive playing style and ice-cold nerves that made him a force to be reckoned with on the rink. After finishing college, McClanahan was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. He played for the Sabres for a single season before he was traded to the Hartford Whalers in 1980 where he spent another two seasons before he was traded to the New York Rangers. His best seasons were spent with the Rangers where his tenacious play led him to score consistent goals and excel in penalty killing. In 1983, McClanahan became part of the USA team who beat the Soviet Union in the famous "Miracle on Ice" game in the Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and became a hero of American hockey.

After the "Miracle on Ice" win, McClanahan played in the NHL for another two years before he decided to retire in 1985 at the age of 27. He then transitioned to coaching and became an assistant coach for the University of Minnesota's ice hockey team. In 1995, he joined the US National Junior Team as an assistant coach and helped coach the team to a gold medal win in the World Junior Hockey Championships.
