Jim Reed Autographs
Jim Reed was born on March 11, 1948, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was an American race car driver who had a long and successful career in stock car racing. Reed began his racing career in the late 1960s on the local dirt tracks of Tennessee. In 1974, he made his NASCAR debut at the World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Reed proved to be a versatile driver and became known for his ability to race on both asphalt and dirt tracks. His best finish in the NASCAR Cup Series was a fourth place at Charlotte in the fall of 1977. Reed made 79 Cup starts between 1974 and 1982, tallying four top-five finishes and 19 top-10s. He also made four starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, with a best finish of seventh at Nashville in 1982.
Despite his lack of big-time financial backing, Reed was a constant figure on the NASCAR scene for several seasons. He was known for his ability to stretch his racing budget and make the most out of his underfunded operations. The racing world lost a true talent when Jim Reed died in a car accident on July 21, 1982, in Knoxville. However, his legacy still lives on as fans remember him as one of the most underrated drivers of his time.
