Joe Amato Autographs
Joe Amato is an American former drag racer who made a significant impact on the sport of drag racing. Born on June 13, 1944, in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, Amato started his racing career in the early 1970s with a Chevy Nova. He turned to drag racing in 1975 and since then, he has been involved in the sport for over four decades.
Amato won five NHRA Top Fuel championships, a feat matched only by legends Joe Fornio, Tony Schumacher, and Larry Dixon. He began his NHRA Top Fuel racing career in 1982, where he earned his first win against Joe Paisano at the Summernationals in Englishtown, New Jersey. In 1990, Amato achieved a career highlight, winning his first Top Fuel championship, followed by four more titles in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1994.
Amato retired from full-time racing at the end of the 2000 season and ranks fourth on the NHRA's all-time wins list with 52 victories. While he is best known for his Top Fuel accomplishments, Amato has been successful in other forms of racing, including Super Comp, Pro Stock, and Sportsman classes. He is also a successful businessman who owns a chain of automotive retail shops in Pennsylvania. Joe Amato remains an iconic figure in drag racing, serving as an inspiration to generations of racers who followed his footsteps.
