Claudio López, known as "El Piojo," is a retired Argentine footballer who played as a forward. Born on July 17, 1974 in the city of Santa Fe, Argentina, López began his soccer career in 1992 when he signed with Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys. In his first year, he helped the team win the Torneo Apertura championship, scoring 13 goals in 32 matches. Over the next six years, López played for several teams across the world, including Valencia (Spain), Lazio (Italy), and Racing Santander (Spain).
It was during his time at Valencia, from 1996 to 2000, where López had the most success. He scored 72 goals in 170 matches and helped the team win the Copa del Rey in 1999 and the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1998 and 1999. Notably, López scored two goals in the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2000, although Valencia ultimately lost the match. Throughout his career, López was known for his speed, skill, and goal-scoring ability. He earned 56 caps for the Argentina national team, scoring 10 goals and appearing in both the 1998 and 2002 World Cups. López retired from professional soccer in 2012 and remains a beloved figure in the sport.
