Diego Forlan Autographs
Diego Forlan is a retired Uruguayan soccer player who played mainly as a striker. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on May 19, 1979. Diego comes from a family with a strong soccer pedigree, his father played for Uruguay's national team in the 70s and his grandfather also played in the local league.
Diego Forlan's soccer career began in 1997, when he joined the Uruguayan club, Independiente. It was at Independiente that he quickly gained a reputation as a prolific goal scorer, finding the net 37 times in 62 appearances. In 2002, he transferred to England's Manchester United but struggled to adapt to the Premier League and a new country. He eventually moved to Spain's La Liga in 2004, where he became a star player with Villarreal and later Atletico Madrid, scoring a total of 198 goals in his club career.
Diego Forlan is also known for his success with Uruguay's national team. He played for the team from 2002 until his retirement in 2015, earning 112 caps and scoring 36 goals. In the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he was instrumental in Uruguay's run to the semi-finals, scoring five goals in the tournament, including two in the quarter-finals and another in the third-place playoff. For his contributions to Uruguay's national team, Forlan was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.
