Jack Charlton Autographs
Jack Charlton was a renowned former English footballer who was born on May 8, 1935, in the Ashington region of Northumberland. He began his soccer career with the Leeds United team in the 1950s and spent 23 years with the team. He established himself as a commanding central defender, and his height made him an excellent threat on set-pieces, especially corners. Charlton was an integral part of the Leeds United team that won the FA Cup and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1960s. He also represented England at the international level, earning 35 caps between 1965 and 1970.
After retiring from playing soccer, Charlton began his managerial career, taking charge of the Middlesbrough team in 1973. He was later appointed the manager of the Republic of Ireland's national football team in 1986. He was able to lead them to their first major tournament, qualification for the UEFA Euro 1988 Championship. Similarly, he helped the Irish squad to reach their first-ever World Cup in 1990 and emerged as a hero in the country where he was treated warmly by fans.
In 1996, after ten years as Irish Manager, Charlton announced his retirement from football management. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Irish Football Hall of Fame in 2005, in recognition of his distinguished career in the sport. Charlton was regarded as a national hero in Ireland for his incredible work in building their football team into an international entity. He was a charismatic personality and remains a legendary figure in English and Irish soccer history. Charlton passes away on July 10, 2020, at the age of 85.
