Ray Clemence Autographs
Ray Clemence was a legendary English soccer goalkeeper who played for Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur in his career. Born on August 5, 1948, in Skegness, England, Clemence started his professional career with Scunthorpe United and later moved to Liverpool FC. He played for Liverpool from 1967 to 1981, and during this time, he won numerous domestic and European titles, including the European Cup, FA Cup, and League Cup. Clemence also represented England in 61 international matches and played in two World Cup tournaments.
Although Clemence was not the tallest goalkeeper, his agility, reflexes, and anticipation made him one of the best goalkeepers of his time. He was known for his excellent distribution and his ability to control the backline. After leaving Liverpool in 1981, Clemence joined Tottenham Hotspur, where he played until his retirement in 1988. During his time at Spurs, he won the FA Cup twice and was also runner-up in the UEFA Cup. Clemence also helped Spurs to reach the final of the 1987 FA Cup final despite being diagnosed with skin cancer.
Clemence's contribution to English soccer was immense. He was a role model for young goalkeepers and was recognized as an inspiration in generating interest and inspiring up-and-coming talent in the national sport. After retirement, Clemence remained connected to soccer as a coach, pundit, and commentator. Ray Clemence died on November 15, 2020, and his legacy and influence on the sport will be remembered for years to come. Thankfully his plays, performances and achievements will never be forgotten.
