Ricky Villa Autographs
Ricardo Julio Villa, commonly known as Ricky Villa, was born on August 18, 1952, in Roque Perez, Argentina. He began his youth career playing for Liniers, a local club in Buenos Aires. At the age of 20, Villa signed for San Lorenzo, one of the most significant clubs in the country. He made an immediate impact, helping his team win their first league title in nine years. Villa's excellent performances did not go unnoticed, and he was soon signed by the famous Buenos Aires club, River Plate.
In 1978, Villa's talent caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur's manager, Keith Burkinshaw, who brought him to England, where he became one of the club's most loved players. Villa is best known for his stunning solo goal in the 1981 FA Cup final replay against Manchester City, which has gone down in history as one of the greatest goals to ever be scored at Wembley Stadium. He helped Tottenham win the FA Cup and UEFA Cup in that season, cementing his place in Spurs' folklore. Villa then moved to Tottenham's local rivals, Watford before returning to Argentina, where he played for several clubs before retiring in 1988.
Throughout his playing career, Villa was renowned for his incredible dribbling skills, pace, and precise finishing. He played a significant role in Argentina's World Cup-winning squad in 1978, scoring two goals in the tournament. After retiring from football, Villa went on to manage a team in the lower leagues of Argentina. He will always be remembered for his skill and contribution to Tottenham's success in the early 1980s.
