Stefan Frei Autographs
Stefan Frei is a Swiss soccer player who currently plays as a goalkeeper for the Seattle Sounders of the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. He was born on April 20, 1986, in Altstaetten, Switzerland, and started his soccer career at a young age. In 1993, he joined the youth academy of FC Widnau 94, and after five years, he moved to FC St. Gallen.
Frei's professional career began in 2005, when he signed with FC Basel, one of the most successful clubs in Swiss soccer history. He spent three seasons with the club, winning two Swiss Super League titles and reaching the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. In 2009, Frei signed with Toronto FC of the MLS and became the club's starting goalkeeper. During his five seasons with the club, he played 110 games and earned a reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
In December 2013, Frei was traded to the Seattle Sounders, where he has played ever since. He helped the team win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2014 and 2015 and the MLS Cup in 2016. Frei's performance in the 2016 MLS Cup final was particularly impressive, as he made a stunning save in extra time to deny a goal and secure the championship for Seattle. In 2020, he broke the MLS record for most saves in a single playoff campaign, with 29 saves in four games. Frei is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in MLS history and has been named to the MLS Best XI twice.
