Thibaut Courtois is a Belgian professional footballer, born on May 11, 1992. He is currently playing as a goalkeeper for Real Madrid and the Belgium national team. He started his soccer career in the youth academy of the Belgian club KRC Genk. Courtois made his professional debut in 2009, at the age of 17, for Genk in the Belgian Pro League. After establishing himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in Belgium, he was signed by Chelsea in 2011.
At Chelsea, Courtois was initially loaned to Atletico Madrid for three seasons. During his time there, he became one of the best goalkeepers in the world, helping the Spanish club win multiple titles including the Europa League, Copa del Rey and La Liga. Courtois returned to Chelsea in 2014 and played an instrumental role in helping his team win the Premier League title in his first season back. He was named the Goalkeeper of the Season for two consecutive years in the Premier League, in 2014-15 and 2016-17.
In 2018, Courtois left Chelsea and signed with Real Madrid for a reported fee of €35 million. He quickly became the first-choice goalkeeper for the Spanish giants, helping the club win the La Liga title in the 2019-20 season. Courtois is also an established player for the Belgian national team, having made his debut in 2011. He represented Belgium in the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups, helping them reach the semi-finals in the latter tournament. Thibaut Courtois is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, with his commanding presence and incredible shot-stopping abilities.
