Tommy Docherty Autographs
Tommy Docherty is a former Scottish football player and manager who was born in 1928 in the town of Glasgow. He began his football career in 1947 with Celtic Football Club as a left-back, but he began to show a greater passion for management as he got older. After retiring from his playing career, Docherty became a well-known manager and coach, working with teams such as Manchester United and Chelsea, where he made significant contributions towards their successes.
Docherty's management career began in the 1960s, and he quickly made an impression in the world of football for his tactical nous and outspoken personality. Nonetheless, it was his tenure at Manchester United from 1972-1977 that was the highlight of his career as a manager. Under Docherty's guidance, Manchester United won the FA Cup in 1977 and achieved a second position finish in the league one year later. Despite his achievements at the club, he was fired from his position after it was revealed that he had an affair with the wife of the club's physiotherapist.
Despite this, Docherty's management career continued to flourish, and he spent brief stints with several different clubs throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He was a highly respected coach due to his unique style and tactics, and many of today's top football managers have cited him as an influence on their own managerial careers. Docherty passed away on New Year's Eve in 2020, leaving behind a great legacy in the world of football management.
