Willie Johnston was a Scottish footballer, born on December 19, 1946, in Scotland. He is considered one of the best footballers Scotland has ever produced. One of the most significant moments of Johnston's footballing career came in 1970 when he helped Rangers FC to reach the European Cup Winners’ Cup final. Rangers ultimately lost the match 1-0 to Borussia Mönchengladbach, but Johnston's performance in the competition earned him a call-up to the Scotland national team. He earned 22 caps for Scotland between 1971 and 1977, scoring three goals. However, his international career was marred by a suspension for taking a banned substance during the 1978 World Cup.

Johnston continued his football career in England, playing for several clubs, including West Bromwich Albion, Birmingham City, and Vancouver Whitecaps. However, his career was marked by incidents of indiscipline and misconduct, which resulted in him being suspended multiple times. Despite this, his talent on the pitch was undeniable, and he is considered one of the most gifted Scottish footballers of his generation.
