Alan Bean Autographs
Alan Bean was an American astronaut and artist, born in Wheeler, Texas, on March 15, 1932. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Texas, he chose to join the Navy, where he became a test pilot. In 1963, Bean was selected as one of the third group of astronauts by NASA. He served as backup lunar module pilot for the Apollo 9 mission and as lunar module pilot for Apollo 12, making him the fourth human to walk on the surface of the moon.
Bean's space career was devoted to the exploration of the moon. During his historic Apollo 12 mission, Bean conducted several experiments that helped scientists better understand the moon's composition and geological history. Bean also became known for his creative side, using his artistic talents to document his experiences and create unique artwork. After retiring from NASA in 1981, Bean continued to paint and inspire others through his storytelling about his time as an astronaut.
Alan Bean's legacy extends beyond his groundbreaking work with NASA.
