Albert Sacco Autograph
Albert Sacco was an American scientist and astronaut who had a distinguished career in space exploration. Born on February 3, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts, Sacco had a keen interest in science from a very young age. This prompted him to pursue his education in the field of science, graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1971. Sacco's interest in space exploration led him to pursue a career as an astronaut. He joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1978 as a member of the astronaut candidate class. Sacco flew his first space mission in 1995 aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia on the STS-73 mission. During this mission, he and his crewmates conducted experiments on combustion science and material science. He went on to fly another space mission in 1998 as a member of the STS-90 crew, which conducted studies on the nervous system and on the effects of weightlessness on the human body.
Even after his retirement from NASA in 2000, Sacco continued to contribute to the field of space exploration. He served as the Vice President of Engineering for the Orbital Sciences Corporation, where he was responsible for designing and developing space-related technologies. Sacco passed away on June 3, 2015, aged 66, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in the field of space science and exploration.
