Charles Duke is an American astronaut who was born on October 3, 1935. Duke is best known for his achievements in the field of space exploration. He is one of only twelve people to have walked on the moon and is the youngest living person to have done so. Duke's space career began in 1966 when he was selected as a member of NASA's fifth astronaut group. Duke was then assigned as the backup Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 13, which famously experienced a catastrophic malfunction and did not land on the moon. Duke later served as the Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 16, where he became the tenth person to walk on the moon. More about Charles Duke
