David Griggs Autographs
David Griggs was a renowned astronaut and a veteran of three space shuttle missions that marked the beginning of his illustrious career in space exploration. He was born on September 14th, 1957 in Portland, Oregon, and had dreamed of becoming an astronaut since his childhood. After completing his high school studies, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Purdue University in 1979 and later earned a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1983.
Griggs joined NASA's Astronaut Corps in 1984 and was selected to fly on the space shuttle Challenger in 1985. He flew two missions on the Challenger before the tragic accident that took the lives of seven astronauts in 1986. Later, he served as a mission specialist on the space shuttle Atlantis in 1989, where he conducted experiments on the effects of low gravity on plant growth. He also played a crucial role in repairing and deploying communication satellites during his space flights.
Griggs retired from NASA in 1993 to become a private consultant in the fields of space and aviation. He held various leadership positions at several aerospace companies and served as a member of the advisory board for Space Adventures, a company that provides space flight opportunities to private citizens. Sadly, he lost his life in a tragic plane crash on June 17th, 1996, while piloting a plane he co-owned. David Griggs' contributions to space exploration and aviation technology remain significant, and his legacy lives on through the work of space exploration pioneers inspired by his remarkable achievements.
