Donald Thomas Autographs
Donald Thomas was born in 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio. He got his undergraduate degree in physics from Case Western Reserve University in 1977 and completed his PhD in materials science engineering from Cornell University in 1982. Dr. Thomas began his career working as a senior research scientist at the Air Force Materials Laboratory, where he researched on the fatigue life of materials. However, his lifelong passion for space science led him to NASA where he worked as a Space Scientist.
Dr. Thomas's career in space science began in 1990, when he was selected as one of the NASA astronaut candidates. He trained for over two years at the Johnson Space Center and was eventually assigned to the Astronaut Office Payloads and Habitability Branch. Throughout his time at NASA, Dr. Thomas participated in four spaceflights, each on a different Space Shuttle. He also served as the Resident Office Science Coordinator on the Mir space station, a role that allowed him to lead several research projects designed to advance human knowledge in the areas of physical and biological sciences.
Dr. Donald Thomas has made significant contributions to the field of space science and exploration. He is recognized for his invaluable work on the space shuttle program, which includes the construction of the International Space Station, among others. Beyond that, he inspired generations of young scientists and engineers to pursue careers in space science and exploration. Dr. Thomas retired from NASA in September 2007, but his legacy in space science continues to inspire and motivate people all over the world.
