Edgar D. Mitchell Autographs

Edgar D. Mitchell was an American astronaut and scientist, born on September 17, 1930, in Texas, USA. He received a bachelor's degree in industrial management in 1952 and a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964. Mitchell was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 1966 and was a backup Lunar Module Pilot for the Apollo 10 mission. Later, he became the Lunar Module Pilot for the Apollo 14 mission, which was the third mission to land on the moon.
During the Apollo 14 mission in 1971, Mitchell and Alan Shepard, the mission commander, conducted two moonwalks totaling over nine hours. On the second moonwalk, they conducted several scientific experiments, including a soil mechanics experiment, seismic experiment, and deployed a solar wind experiment. Mitchell was also famous for conducting his own ESP experiment, which focused on extra-sensory perception (ESP). After retiring from NASA in 1972, he founded the Institute of Noetic Sciences, which addresses the intersection between science and spirituality.
Throughout his career, Edgar D. Mitchell's contribution to the field of space exploration has been immense. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and honorary doctorates from several universities, including New Mexico State University, the University of Akron, and the University of South Florida. He was also inducted into the Space Hall of Fame and the Astronaut Hall of Fame. His career and scientific research have inspired and influenced generations of scientists and astronauts worldwide. Mitchell passed away on February 4, 2016, at the age of 85, leaving behind an impressive scientific legacy.
