Jerry Carr Autographs
Jerry Carr is a former American astronaut, engineer, and naval aviator who flew on the Skylab 4 mission in 1973. He was born in Oregon in 1932 and graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in aeronautical engineering. After serving in the US Navy as a fighter pilot, he was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 1966.
Carr's most notable achievement was his participation in the Skylab 4 mission, which lasted from November 16, 1973, to February 8, 1974. He and his crewmates, Ed Gibson and William Pogue, spent a record-breaking 84 days in orbit aboard the Skylab space station, conducting scientific experiments and making repairs to the station. They also set a new space endurance record, surpassing the previous record of 59 days held by the Skylab 3 crew.
After leaving NASA in 1977, Carr joined the University of Alabama as a professor of engineering. He also served as an executive in the aerospace industry and as a consultant for NASA. Carr's contributions to space exploration have been recognized with numerous awards, including the NASA Distinguished Service Medal and the Robert J. Collier Trophy. He remains an inspiration to current and aspiring astronauts, demonstrating the courage, dedication, and innovation that are essential to exploring the final frontier.
