Paul Calle Autographs
Paul Calle was an accomplished American artist who had a keen interest in space exploration. Born on June 26, 1928, in New York City, Calle grew up with a fascination for the skies, a passion that later led him to pursue a career in the space industry. Calle studied at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, and then went on to attend the Art Students League of New York.
In 1962, Calle's interest in space got its first big break when he was invited to witness John Glenn's historic flight aboard the Friendship 7 spacecraft. Glenn’s flight was the first manned orbital flight by an American astronaut, and Calle's sketches of the event were published in LIFE magazine, which helped to solidify his place in space history. In 1963, Calle was selected as one of the artists to document the Gemini 3 mission, and in 1969, he was chosen as one of the artists to document the Apollo 11 mission.
Throughout his career, Calle created space-themed artworks that have become iconic representations of American space history. His works have been collected by institutions such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and his legacy has been preserved in the Paul Calle Archive at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. His passion for space and art not only enabled him to make a name for himself but left a lasting impact on the way we view space exploration.
