Richard Covey Autographs

Richard Covey is an American astronaut, test pilot, and retired United States Air Force colonel with a successful career in space exploration. Covey was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on August 1, 1946. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1968 and later earned a Master's degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Purdue University in 1975. He also completed the Air Force Test Pilot School and became a distinguished graduate.
Covey's space career began in 1981 when he was selected as an astronaut for NASA's Shuttle program. He flew as a pilot on the STS-51I Discovery mission in 1985, which deployed three satellites into orbit. He also served as the Commander on three other Shuttle missions, including STS-26 in 1988, the first Shuttle flight after the Challenger disaster. Covey retired from NASA in 1994, completing four missions and spending 646 hours in space. He was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2002.
After retiring from NASA, Covey served as a Director of Flight Crew Operations at the Johnson Space Center until 1996. He then joined the Boeing Company and worked on the International Space Station program, eventually becoming the Director of NASA Systems at the Houston offices of Boeing. Covey's legacy in space exploration will always be remembered as a pioneer of the Space Shuttle program, an inspiring leader, and a talented astronaut who contributed significantly to human spaceflight.
