Rocco Petrone Autographs

Rocco Petrone was a highly accomplished engineer and NASA executive who played a vital role in shaping the American space program. Born in 1926 in New York City to Italian immigrant parents, Petrone served in the US Army Air Force during World War II before obtaining a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame. In 1951, he began working for the Army Ballistic Missile Agency at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, where he helped develop early weapons systems.
In 1960, Petrone joined NASA and was quickly assigned to work on the Saturn rocket program, which was integral to the success of the Apollo moon landing missions. In 1963, he was appointed as the director of launch operations for the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, overseeing the launch of many historic missions, including Apollo 11 - the first mission to land humans on the moon. Petrone's expertise as a launch director and his tireless efforts to improve launch vehicle systems greatly enhanced the overall success of the American space program.
After leaving NASA in 1974, Petrone continued to work in the aerospace industry, serving as the president and chief operating officer of Rockwell International's Space Transportation Systems Division. Throughout his career, Petrone received numerous awards and accolades for his contributions to space exploration, including the National Aeronautics Association's Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy in 1969 and induction into the National Space Hall of Fame in 1985. His dedication and contributions to the American space program remain a testament to his legacy in the field of space exploration.
