Cesar Izturis is a retired Venezuelan professional baseball player born on February 10, 1980. He is primarily known for his outstanding defensive skills as a shortstop. Izturis began his professional career in 1996, when he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays. He played with the Blue Jays for five seasons, from 1998 to 2002, but it wasn't until his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2002, that Izturis truly made a name for himself as a premier shortstop in the league.
During his time with the Dodgers, Izturis led the National League with a .987 fielding percentage and won the Gold Glove Award in 2004. He was an integral part of the Dodgers team that won the National League West division in 2004 and 2006.As a free agent, Izturis went on to play with several teams, including the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers, Washington Nationals, and Cincinnati Reds.
Throughout his career, Izturis was widely regarded as one of the best defensive shortstops in the game. He possessed quick reflexes, a strong arm, and an exceptional ability to anticipate the play. Despite his defensive prowess, Izturis was never known for his offensive skills. Nevertheless, he played an essential role in the teams he played for and was highly valued for his defensive contributions.
