Silvera spent most of his career as a backup catcher, playing behind the legendary Yogi Berra. However, he still managed to make a significant impact on the field. He was known for his skillful handling of pitchers, his strong arm, and his leadership in the locker room. Silvera was also a solid hitter, finishing his career with a .282 batting average and 61 runs batted in.

In addition to his achievements on the diamond, Silvera was also known for his character and integrity. He was a respected member of the Yankees organization, and his contributions to the team were recognized in 1951, when he was awarded a World Series ring. After retiring from baseball in 1957, he remained involved in the sport as a coach and scout. Today, he is remembered as a talented player and a beloved member of the baseball community.
