In 2001, Burke was drafted by the Houston Astros in the first round of the MLB draft, and he made his Major League debut with the team in 2004. During his time with the Astros, Burke primarily played second base and outfield, and he quickly became known for his speed on the basepaths. In the 2005 postseason, Burke became a hero for the Astros when he hit a game-winning home run in the 18th inning of a playoff game against the Atlanta Braves, clinching the series for Houston.

After leaving the Astros, Burke played for several other teams, including the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres. He retired from baseball in 2010 with a career batting average of .239 and 31 home runs. Today, Burke is a baseball analyst and commentator for various networks, including the SEC Network and ESPN, where he shares his insights and experiences with viewers around the world.
