Dewayne Wise is a retired American professional baseball player who was born on February 24, 1978, in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating from high school, he was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Draft. Over the course of his career, Wise played for a number of different teams including the Atlanta Braves, the Chicago White Sox, and the Philadelphia Phillies. During his time in the majors, he was primarily known for his defensive abilities, particularly his prowess as an outfielder. He was best known for making one of the most amazing catches in MLB history on July 23, 2009, where he robbed a home run in the ninth inning of a game to preserve Mark Buehrle's perfect game for the White Sox.

Wise retired from baseball in 2015 after playing in the minor leagues for a few years. Throughout his career, he was a solid contributor to his teams and was often called on for his defensive skills. His remarkable catch during the 2009 season solidified his place in baseball history and showed that he was not only a good player but also a valuable asset to any team.
