Jim RiceJim Rice is a former Major League Baseball left fielder who played his entire career for the Boston Red Sox from 1974 to 1989. He was born in Anderson, South Carolina, on March 8, 1953. Rice was drafted by the Red Sox in the 15th round of the 1971 Major League Baseball draft. He quickly rose through the Red Sox farm system, making his major league debut in August 1974. Rice quickly established himself as one of the most feared sluggers in the game, hitting .309 with 22 home runs and 102 RBIs in his inaugural season.
Rice was a steady performer for Boston throughout his career, hitting at least 20 home runs in every season from 1975 to 1986. His best season came in 1978 when he won the American League Most Valuable Player award. That year, Rice hit .315 with 46 home runs and 139 RBIs while leading the Red Sox to the American League East title. He was a nine-time All-Star, finishing his career with a .298 batting average, 382 home runs, and 1,451 RBIs. Rice was known for his incredible power and was often feared by opposing pitchers.

He was a player who could change the game with one swing of the bat, and his legacy as one of the greatest players in Red Sox history continues to this day.
