John Franco Autographs
John Franco is a former American professional baseball player who had a successful career as a left-handed pitcher. Born on November 17, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York, Franco attended Wilson Classical High School where he played both baseball and basketball. After high school, he attended St. John's University where he played college baseball for the St. John's Red Storms.
Franco began his professional baseball career in 1984 when he was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round. However, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds just two years later, where he spent 10 seasons (1985-1994) and became one of the team's most reliable relief pitchers. In 1995, Franco signed with the New York Mets, becoming their closer and leading the National League in saves with 30 in his first season with the team. Franco played for the Mets for 14 seasons, earning five All-Star nods and finishing his career as the team's all-time leader in saves with 276.
After retiring from professional baseball in 2005, Franco worked as a public ambassador for the Mets and continued to appear at team events. In 2012, he was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions both on and off the field. Franco's impressive career stats and leadership skills made him one of the most respected and well-liked players in baseball, and he continues to be remembered as one of the greatest New York Mets players of all time.
