Johnny Kucks Autographs
Johnny Kucks was a former Major League Baseball pitcher born in Hoboken, New Jersey on July 27, 1932. He started his baseball journey playing in high school before being signed by the New York Yankees in 1952 after he graduated from St. Michael's College. Kucks became a professional player in 1956 at the age of 23 when he debuted for the Yankees. He played for 8 seasons from 1955-1961 and ended his career with the Washington Senators.
During his time with the Bronx Bombers, Kucks was part of the championship team that won the World Series in 1956. In that series match, he pitched a complete game in the series-deciding Game 7 against the Brooklyn Dodgers, and only gave up 1 run in 9 innings. He took control of the game and shut down the Dodgers, which gave the Yankees the win they needed. The team went on to win two more World Series titles in 1958 and 1961, with Kucks making contributions when they won the 1958 series.
Overall, during his career, Johnny Kucks played in 202 games (156 of them starting), had 81 wins, 64 losses, a 3.56 ERA, and 845 strikeouts. Although he had several injuries throughout his professional baseball career, he remained determined and dedicated to the game. After retiring, Kucks managed a Jersey City team in the Atlantic League for three years; then, he was the head baseball coach of his alma mater St. Michael's College. He remained involved with baseball after his playing days and passed away in 2013 at the age of 80.
