Broxton played college baseball at Santa Fe Community College before being drafted in the second round of the 2002 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made his debut for the Dodgers in 2005 and quickly established himself as one of the best relievers in the league. He became the team's closer in 2008 and set a franchise record for most saves in a season with 36.

During his 14-year baseball career, Broxton played for Los Angeles Dodgers, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Brewers, and New York Mets. He was a two-time All-Star in 2009 and 2010 and won the National League Rolaids Relief Man Award in 2009.
