Keith Hernandez is an American retired baseball player who spent 17 seasons in the Major League Baseball (MLB) playing as a first baseman. He was born on October 20, 1953, in San Francisco, California. Hernandez started his baseball career while still studying at Capuchino High School in San Bruno. In 1974, Keith Hernandez made his MLB debut for the St. Louis Cardinals where he played for 10 seasons. He became one of the best first basemen in the league, winning six consecutive Gold Glove Awards as the National League's best-fielding first baseman from 1978 to 1983. He also won two World Series with the Cardinals in 1982 and New York Mets in 1986. Hernandez appeared in five All-Star games and won the National League Most Valuable Player Award in 1979. He ended his career with a .296 batting average, 218 home runs, and 1,071 runs batted in.

Keith Hernandez's playing style was known for his excellent defensive skills and precision at first base. He won many accolades throughout his career, including the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award for his charitable work in 1982. After his retirement, he worked as a color analyst for the Mets and then later for Fox Sports before retiring in 2021. Hernandez also published his autobiography titled "I'm Keith Hernandez" in 2018. His remarkable career and contribution to the sport have earned him a place in the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame and the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
