In 1939, Durocher retired from playing and began his managing career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He led the team to two National League pennants during his tenure, in 1941 and 1947. In 1947, Durocher became embroiled in a controversy when he signed Jackie Robinson to the Dodgers, breaking the color barrier in professional baseball. Durocher supported Robinson and helped him adjust to playing in the major leagues. In 1948, Durocher became the manager of the New York Giants, where he was instrumental in leading them to three National League pennants and a World Series championship in 1954.

Durocher’s baseball career was marked by controversy, which included suspensions and fines for his behavior on and off the field. However, he was also regarded as a skilled leader and strategist who could motivate his team to victory. Durocher died on October 7, 1991, in Palm Springs, California, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most successful managers in baseball history. Read even more about Leo Durocher at Wikipedia
