Overbay made his Major League debut with the Diamondbacks in 2001, but it wasn't until 2003 that he became a regular starter. That year, he led all National League rookies in batting average, doubles, and runs, and finished third in the rookie of the year voting. Overbay played for several teams during his 14-year career in the Major Leagues, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers. Overbay retired in 2014, ending his career with a .266 batting average, 151 home runs, and 675 RBI.

Overbay's career was filled with highlights and memorable moments, such as his career-best season in 2006 with the Blue Jays, where he hit .312 with 22 home runs and 92 RBI. In 2013, he hit a game-winning home run for the Yankees on his daughter's birthday, earning him the nickname "Dad at the Bat." Overbay was known for his excellent defense and ability to play multiple positions, making him a valuable asset for any team he played for.
