Manny Acta was born in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic on January 11, 1969. He is a former Major League Baseball manager and player who was most notably the manager of the Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians. Acta made his MLB debut as a player for the Astros in 1988 but was primarily used as a utility infielder throughout his playing career. He played for the Astros, Seattle Mariners, and New York Mets before retiring in 1992 due to injury. After his playing career ended, Acta began coaching in the minor leagues before eventually becoming a third base coach for the Montreal Expos in 2002.

In 2007, Acta was hired as the manager of the Washington Nationals, becoming the first Dominican-born manager in MLB history. He was praised for his ability to manage a young and inexperienced team and was named NL Manager of the Year by The Sporting News in 2007. After leaving the Nationals in 2009, Acta was hired as the manager of the Cleveland Indians in 2010.
