He is a former Major League Baseball manager and player who was most notably the manager of the Washington Nationals and Cleveland Indians. In 2007, Acta was hired as the manager of the Washington Nationals, becoming the first Dominican-born manager in MLB history. He was praised for his ability to manage a young and inexperienced team and was named NL Manager of the Year by The Sporting News in 2007. After leaving the Nationals in 2009, Acta was hired as the manager of the Cleveland Indians in 2010.
